What is Wing Tchun Do?
Wing Tchun Do is a martial art system that embraces and unites various disciplines. It is a well thought out and practical martial art.
Wing Tchun Do is an evolution of Wing Chun/Tsun and is a very practical self defence system that can be taught to vertiually anybody.
Wing Tchun Do was developed personally by Fighterman. He started Wing Chun in the Master Tsui Shun Tin lineage in 1973 (direct Yip Man student) and then moved on his studies to encompass other disciplines, like Boxing, Kick Boxing, wrestling, Tai Chi pushing hands, Phillipino stick fighting, Escrima, knife and sword training. He finally became a private student of Leung Ting and then later left the organization to create his personal interpretation today called Wing Tchun Do. Being a true martial arts enthusiast he sought a method in which he could unite various disciplines using a unique methodology which today he calls Wing Tchun Do.
Why create Wing Tchun Do? There are so many martial arts out there
He always felt that something was lacking in the modern teaching methods of certain martial arts. Observing the martial arts communities, and reading various opinions, blogs, magazines etc…. he saw many problems, politics, bad mouthing of other disciplines, non qualified masters, not thinking about the evolution of the student and rather more so developing better marketing strategies to earn more money from them.
Disillusioned, probably because he too at times felt like a victim or possibly he didn’t want to identify himself in this negative light, he developed a system based on the loved traditional values that one would look for in a martial art and then provide it as a service.
‘A martial art is a discipline, it’s like a school, it’s not to empower your ego’
Fighterman has many videos on youtube at this point well over a thousand, demonstrating his ability and also provides online training courses for anybody around the world.
Who teaches Wing Tchun Do?
Certainly creating a martial art is not an easy task, it’s taken at this point 37 years, and the art is considered as a ‘work in progress’ always evolving.
Also it’s not easy creating qualified instructors. Furthermore Fightermanis not in a rush and he is very selective to who teaches his art and has a very disciplined training approach for anybody who wants to expand the teaching method of Wing Tchun Do.
Up until now Master Joe trains and develops his instructors personally and he expects his instructors to remain pure to his approach of being a true martial arts teacher.
‘ I almost prefer teaching ability over physical ability, nowadays we have many people capable of striking and demonstrating their martial powers, but very few people know how to teach. Certainly being physically gifted is an advantage but people want to know what’s in your mind and how to work themselves to improve physical and mental performance
Although this art still encompasses many traditional aspects similar to Wing Chun /Tsun, Wing Tchun Do brings it one step deeper and unites the Wing Chun/Tsun theories and amalgamates it with various martial art systems.
This was done because many people with differing martial arts back grounds could apply the Wing Tchun Do to their existing training format without changing their style or training regimen.
‘ there is nothing worse than a martial artist after many years of practice in another style having to drop everything and starting all over again’ ‘I should know, I’ve been there before’
Wing Tchun Do helps you understand your existing style and provides an in depth view of how to train the system without leaving your own.
Fighterman is very excited about this. ‘ I always felt that their was a way in which martial arts could use a tool to reflect their work and applying it when comparing themselves with other systems’
Fighterman says ‘Wing Tchun Do doesn’t mean leaving the style you are doing, we have many programmes to help improve body mechanics and functionality in the art you are doing now!’
Wing Tchun Do is unique and moves away from mimicking other systems and introduces a very realistic and practical approach to training which helps the student evolve on many personal levels of growth.
Firstly understanding him/her self, understanding human nature, fear, tension, anxiety, and working on working with these elements to improve self confidence.
Secondly, improving physical mobility, flexibility, strength, coordination and above all awareness and improved concentration.
Third, working in a family environment. Working with people like you, working to improve over all performance and making friendship.
Fourth , understanding self defence on all levels, learning what it means to use a martial art in a modern world and the necessity of grasping what the law permits or considers legitimate self defence.
Fifth, returning to the martial arts values that so many schools seem to have lost
Last but not least Wing Tchun Do intends to maintain its purity by avoiding politics and aims to unite various martial arts and teach to respect differing theories and disciplines.
Global Chi Sao the heart and soul of Wing Tchun Do
Not many people really understand the mechanics of chi sao and probably, one would need to write a 60 page thesis to give a better understanding.
Although many people consider Chi Sao a drill, the truth is that Chi Sao improves your abilities on many levels. Heightened physical sensibility, improved coordination, enforcing physical structure, improved reaction times, improved elasticity and flexibility, increased balance, learning how to use and adapt the force of another person, improving the body’s capabilities to increase power. It really helps to increase relaxation and brings the body to a deep level meditative state of physical concentration.
Chi Sao is like the language of the soul. It is not binding, nor restrictive and helps guide the body to improve physical performance on many levels.
Fighterman uses these concepts and teaches frequently members of the community, the public, police forces, and security teams. Having worked in security for many years he discovered a practical approach to self defence and developed many programmes to provide quick practical an no nonsense results.
Overall view, Wing Tchun Do, a missing link in the martial arts?
Wing Tchun Do is a system that connects many systems of martial arts together. Who studies Wing Tchun Do will be able to better understand the mechanics of almost any martial arts. We feel that it’s a bit like a missing link, a link which with its working methodology helps you to relate and respect all true combat and martial arts systems and work them better with a unified working methodology.
Wing Tchun Do was born in 2005, it is being taught in two countries of the world and will soon be available online as weekly courses to the public
Fighterman is a well known martial artist and has studied varied systems of combat. He started Wing Chun under the lineage of Tsui Shun Tin (for many years a closed door student of the late GM Yip Man)in 1973 and was also a direct student of Grandmaster Leung Ting. After 35 years he founded his own system which embraces many Wing Chun Tsun theories and renamed it Wing Tchun Do.
Fighterman is against politics in the Wing world and still studies and learns from as many lineages he considers authentic.
Fighterman is preparing online tuition and courses of Wing Chun/Tsun online via his website.
